- Abstract:
- This study analyzes the processes that lead to individual and/or groupal isolation in Erico Verissimo's ‘O Tempo e o Vento’ (‘Time and the Wind’) and in Dos Passos' ‘U. S. A’, and studies how each of these trilogies develops the metaphor continent x island, implicit in Donne's ‘Meditation XVII’. The role of this metaphor is studied based on Mukarovsky's thought on the relation between literature and society.
- Este estudo analisa os processos que levam ao isolamento individual e / ou grupal em "O Tempo e o Vento", de Erico Verissimo, e em "U. S. A", de Dos Passos, e estuda como cada uma dessas trilogias desenvolve a metáfora continente x ilha, implícita na "Meditação XVII" de Donne. O papel desta metáfora é estudado com base no pensamento de Mukarovsky sobre a relação entre literatura e sociedade.
