- Holding a master’s degree in literature and semiotics from PUCSP and being a researcher at the Centro Cultural São Paulo, Márcia Denser made the journey from fiction to theory. She debuted as a short story writer in 1977, was nicknamed "dark muse" by her colleague Caio Fernando Abreu in the 1980s and today continues to publish short narratives, in parallel with the work of coordinating literary creation workshops. The writer separates work from fiction and theory with the following image: to do literature is to go down a slope backwards, laughing and running; to study the fictional work, one's own and that of others, is to face the monster walking up the slope. This interview was given in Porto Alegre on November 6, 2004, after the two afternoons of the Estúdio do Texto workshop, held at the Centro Cultural Erico Veríssimo. Before ten students, she defended the need to know how to write under the pressure of time, demanded the writing of exercises on portraits and spatial displacements and listened to the reading of all texts. She patiently explained what the descriptions had of clichés and how it was possible to save them: through the resources of humor, memory, the flow of consciousness. The short story writer has nine published books: ‘Tango Fantasma’ [Ghost tango] (1977), ‘O animal dos motéis’ [The Animal of the Motels] (1982), ‘Exercícios para o pecado’ [Exercises for Sin] (1984), ‘Prazer’ [Pleasure] (1984), ‘O prazer é todo meu’ [The pleasure is all mine] (1984), ‘Diana caçadora’ [Diana, hunter] (1986), ‘A ponte das estrelas’ [The bridge of the stars] (1990), ‘Toda prosa’ [All prose] (2002), ‘Diana Caçadora / Tango fantasma’ [Diana, hunter / Ghost tango] (2003). She also participates in the anthologies ‘Os cem melhores contos brasileiros do século XX’ [The hundred best Brazilian short stories of the 20th century], [13 maneiras de amar’ [13 ways to love] and ‘O decálogo’ [The decalogue]. Tales of hers such as ‘O vampire da Alameda Casabranca’ [The vampire of Alameda Casabranca] and ‘O ultimo tango em Jacobina’ [The last tango in Jacobina] reveal an unusual mixture of pornography and lyricism: the sexual objects are men, a poet, and a mechanic, manipulated by disenchanted women.
- Mestre em literatura e semiótica pela PUCSP e pesquisadora do Centro Cultural São Paulo, Márcia Denser faz o percurso da ficção à teoria. Ela estreou como contista em 1977, foi alcunhada de "musa dark" pelo colega Caio Fernando Abreu nos anos 1980 e hoje prossegue publicando narrativas curtas, paralelamente ao trabalho de coordenadora de oficinas de criação literária. A escritora separa as lides da ficção e da teoria com a seguinte imagem: fazer literatura é descer uma ladeira de costas, rindo e correndo; estudar a obra ficcional, a própria e a dos outros, é encarar o monstro subindo a ladeira a pé. A entrevista foi concedida em Porto Alegre em 6 de novembro de 2004, após as duas tardes da oficina Estúdio do Texto, ministrada no Centro Cultural Erico Veríssimo. Diante de dez alunos, ela defendeu a necessidade de saber escrever sob a pressão do tempo, exigiu a redação de exercícios sobre retratos e deslocamentos espaciais e ouviu a leitura de todos os textos. Explicou com paciência o que as descrições tinham de clichês e como era possível salvá-las: pelos recursos do humor, da memória, do fluxo de consciência. A contista tem nove livros publicados: Tango Fantasma (1977), O Animal dos Motéis (1982), Exercícios Para o Pecado (1984), Muito Prazer (1984), O Prazer é Todo Meu (1984), Diana Caçadora (1986), A Ponte das Estrelas (1990), Toda Prosa (2002), Diana Caçadora/Tango Fantasma (2003). Também participa das antologias Os Cem Melhores Contos Brasileiros do Século XX, 13 Maneiras de Amar e O Decálogo. Contos seus como O vampiro da Alameda Casabranca e O último tango em Jacobína revelam uma mistura incomum de pornografia e lirismo: os objetos sexuais são homens, um poeta e um mecânico, manipulados por mulheres desencantadas.
