- This analysis of narrative self-consciousness in ‘Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas,’ ‘Dom Casmurro’ and ‘Memorial de Aires’ aims to demonstrate Machado de Assis' ever-deepening critical posture regarding the representational possibilities of language. This attitude, already present in the two earlier novels, culminates in ‘Memorial,’ where the self-referential observations cast doubt on the very legitimacy and veracity of the narrated events as the boundaries of the real are confused with the edges of the imaginary.
- Essa análise da autoconsciência narrativa em 'Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas', 'Dom Casmurro' e 'Memorial de Aires' tem como objetivo demonstrar a postura crítica cada vez mais profunda de Machado de Assis em relação às possibilidades representacionais da linguagem. Essa atitude, já presente nos dois romances anteriores, culmina em "Memorial", em que as observações autorreferenciais colocam em dúvida a própria legitimidade e veracidade dos eventos narrados, à medida que as fronteiras do real são confundidas com as bordas do imaginário.
