- The present article aims to study ‘Primeiras Estórias’ by Guimarães Rosa, as a planned work of design. The point of departure is the first edition, from 1961, when the collection displayed a cover with drawings of the stories and an illustrated index, both suggested by the author. Furthermore, the 21 stories of the volume are divided into two groupings of ten, with the story "O espelho" [The Mirror] in the middle. There thus exists a specular structure in which the first story (1) and the last (21) have the same protagonist and a similar narrative structure. One problem, then, is the relationship between the part and the whole, between the text and the structure. ln this vein, the isolated reading of the stories is placed into question, when removed from the context of the work in which they were conceived.
- O presente artigo tem por objetivo estudar "Primeiras Estórias" de Guimarães Rosa, como obra de design planejada. O ponto de partida é a primeira edição, de 1961, quando a coleção exibiu uma capa com desenhos das histórias e um índice ilustrado, ambos sugeridos pelo autor. Além disso, as 21 histórias do volume são divididas em dois grupos de dez, com a história "O espelho" no meio. Existe, portanto, uma estrutura especular na qual a primeira história (1) e a última (21) têm o mesmo protagonista e uma estrutura narrativa similar. Um problema, então, é a relação entre a parte e o todo, entre o texto e a estrutura. Nesse sentido, a leitura isolada das histórias é colocada em questão, quando removida do contexto do trabalho em que foram concebidas.
