- Oral history with Alan Thompson on growing up in Liverpool 8, facing racism from police and skinhead groups, and connecting these struggles to the legacies of slavery. He discusses the influence of Rastafarianism, reggae, the Green Jackets, and his role in Delado, a pioneering dance troupe. The interview emphasizes cultural identity, resilience, and the transmission of memory across generations. - Biographical/historical note: Alan is Liverpool born of Guyanese and Irish heritage, as a Rastafarian he is also known as Daniel or Danny dread. As a teenager he was involved in Crasher sound system as ‘Cultural Toaster’ also known as a MC. This developed his passion for reggae music which has been an important part of his life. Alan was a Dancer in Delado which enabled him to feel a personal connection to West-Africa.
