Description
- Abstract:
- This paper deals with the poetics of gender, but is not limited to the question of feminism and poetry. It posits, rather, that in terms of literary history, from the period termed ‘vanguardismo’ in Spanish America but ‘modernismo’ in Brazil, we can analyze women's poetic production in terms of two principal currents or modalities of discourse (Cecília Meireles vs. Gilka Machado) according to a writer's ideological position in regard to feminism and the prevailing canon (poetics and politics). ln addition, the paper attempts to demonstrate that, in much contemporary political and popular poetry by women, a testimonial poetics may be discerned.
