Description
- Abstract:
- The main purpose of this essay is to study the relationship between history and story in Silviano Santiago's novel ‘Stella Manhattan’. Establishing some connections among "writing," "sexuality," and "power", the article analyses not only the role of outsiders (Eduardo) and women (Leila), but also the importance of intertextuality in order to understand the processes involving the transformation of "reality" into narrative(s) in a postmodern society of the Third World. In addition, this study takes into consideration how the "narrator" uses techniques belonging to the "historical" and "detective" novels in order to give them a new configuration, the reader being one of the most important elements.
